Sightseeing / 2019

Sightseeing was a significant solo exhibition of Rowan Conroy’s work held at Goulburn Regional Art Gallery (GRAG) between 12 July - 7 September, 2019, and was curated by Gina Mobayed of GRAG. The exhibition featured 13 large format photographic prints, one historical documentary screening, and one large video installation entitled ‘Fencelines #2’, with accompanying composition by Christopher Sainsbury.

The exhibition was accompanied by the published catalogue Rowan Conroy: Sightseeing, which included a critical essay by Dr Kate Warren (Centre for Art History and Art Theory, ANU). The exhibition featured two of Conroy’s large format prints of the Paphos theatre and finds from the site; these and a third print of the Paphos theatre were also exhibited in the earlier 2017 exhibition Travellers from Australia held in Cyprus. The Sightseeing exhibition was supported by a the 2018 Create NSW Regional Arts Fellowship and GRAG, and was the culmination of 5 years’ work by the artist.
